Colorado Mountain College Rifle’s high school equivalency (formerly known as GED) and English as a second language programs have recently returned to serve students at the college’s Rifle campus on Airport Road.
For several years GED and ESL students had taken classes at the Downtown Rifle Academic Center. That downtown Rifle location has been closed.
“This change back to our previous location will provide better immersion in college life, improve access to college services and technology, and increase our capacity to serve students,” said Carole Boughton, vice president and Rifle campus dean. “We strive to provide the highest-quality education and services to our students. Now our ESL and high school equivalency students will have complete access to all the services we offer.”
By returning the programs to the main campus, support staff can more efficiently serve all students’ needs.
“CMC is a college for the community, and we want to continue to remain accessible and relevant,” Boughton said. “At our campus we are talking with community partners about ways to provide free ESL classes for students. Access to the campus and to our programs is extremely important to us.”
She also said that the campus is in conversations with the Roaring Fork Transit Authority, encouraging them to include a stop at CMC Rifle as part of a proposed route from Parachute to Rifle. “We are also exploring other alternative transportation options with our community partners,” she said.
Students can register for ESL classes at CMC Rifle, 3695 Airport Road, on May 17, from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Summer courses for high school equivalency will begin in June.
