Internationally renowned activist Winona LaDuke will visit Colorado Mountain College Vail Valley at Edwards for “An Evening with Winona LaDuke,” a reception, discussion and book signing on Feb. 21.
Presented by the CMC Sustainability Speaker Series and Women in Philanthropy, the free public evening event will take place from 6:30-9 p.m. following a workshop with CMC sustainability studies students earlier in the day.
LaDuke, a member of the Ojibwe tribe, is a graduate of Harvard and Antioch universities. As founder of Honor the Earth, she works on issues of sustainable development, renewable energy, food systems and environmental justice. She was Ralph Nader’s running mate for the Green Party in 1996 and 2000, and is the author of seven nonfiction books on indigenous struggles for land and rights. She has also written a semi-autobiographical novel and two children’s books.
This past September, LaDuke was featured on Amy Goodman’s “Democracy Now” national radio program at the Dakota Access Pipeline standoff at Standing Rock, N. D. She advocates not only for indigenous rights, but for human rights around the world.
