Colorado Mountain College professor receives national sustainability award

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education announced that Tina Evans, Ph.D., associate professor of sustainability studies at Colorado Mountain College Steamboat Springs, has received AASHE’s Campus Sustainability Research award for outstanding achievements and progress toward sustainability. AASHE bestows its prestigious awards on the institutions and individuals that are helping to lead higher education to a sustainable future.

This year, AASHE received 220 total entries – a record number, with seven winners announced in three categories. Winners were announced during the opening ceremony at the AASHE Conference & Expo in Baltimore, Md. Entries were judged on overall impact, innovation, stakeholder involvement, clarity and other criteria specific to each category.

Specifically, AASHE honored Evans and Colorado Mountain College for Evans’ published journal article, “Finding Heart: Generating and Maintaining Hope and Agency Through Sustainability Education.” The piece appeared in the November 2015 issue of The Journal of Sustainability Education.

“I am delighted to see such distinguished and hard-working sustainability leaders recognized as AASHE Sustainability Award winners,” said AASHE Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser. “They are truly pioneering the campus sustainability movement and their achievements represent big wins for our community.”

Tina Evans, Ph.D., associate professor of sustainability studies at Colorado Mountain College Steamboat Springs, recently received a Campus Sustainability Research Award from the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education. Award recipients received recognition in a variety of formats as well as a plaque made of Forest Stewardship Council-certified wood from Rivanna, a woman-owned B Corp with a strong commitment to sustainability. To date, more than 70 campuses been recognized through this prestigious award program since its inception in 2006.
