For the third straight year, Colorado Mountain College is hosting College Goal Sunday, a national event that takes place one Sunday afternoon in February for prospective college students and their parents to get free help with financial aid paperwork. Nontraditional and independent students are encouraged to attend as well, and assistance is available for applying to any college or university – not just Colorado Mountain College.
This year, the event runs from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 21, 2016, at six of the college’s locations. Staff will be on hand to guide attendees into alternatives for paying for college. Attendants are asked to bring 2015 W-2 forms and tax information, bank statements, and identification, including the student’s Social Security number. Spanish translators will be available.
Particular attention will be paid to filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which must be completed in order to apply for federal and state grants, work study, student loans and many scholarships.
College Goal Sunday will take place at 20 other locations across the state. More than $20,000 in scholarships will be given away during the day. Students must enter at the event to be considered for the scholarship drawing. Colorado Mountain College alone will be offering to six College Goal Sunday attendees, who are choosing to attend CMC in fall of 2016, a $1,000 scholarship to be used at one of CMC’s College Goal Sunday hosting locations.
