The Leadership Steamboat class of 2015 hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony in early October to celebrate the installment of four permanent educational signs along the core trail and Yampa River. The signs were the final piece of the group’s “Catch the Drift” river stewardship project and detail how to protect rivers through safe recreation, preservation and understanding of the Yampa’s inherent value.

— The Leadership Steamboat class of 2015 river stewardship project culminated earlier this month with the installation of four permanent educational signs along the Yampa River Core Trail and the river itself.

The group installed the signs as part of the yearlong “Catch the Drift” project aimed at renewing enthusiasm for stewardship of the Yampa River.

The signs detail how to protect rivers through safe recreation practices, preservation and understanding of the value of the Yampa. Signs are located at Charlie’s Hole, River Creek Park, Weiss Park and Rotary Park and include information on water quality, riparian zone education, the story of the Yampa’s history and information about its status as a free-flowing river.

“The signs were a key point of raising awareness,” said class member Ryan Fleming. “The more information you can put out there, the better. Education is key.”  Click for full Steamboat Pilot article by Teresa Ristow
