Two CMC alumni were among the six men who embarked on Rediscover North America canoe expedition back in January, 2015. The team completed their trip on September 2 after paddling 5,230 miles across North America. Canoe & Kayak magazine has been following the team; their final update is reprinted below.
In early January, the six-man Rediscover North America team left the Gulf of Mexico paddling three canoes. Their destination: a tiny fishing hamlet in Nunavut, Canada, on the shores of the Arctic Ocean. After eight months on the water, including an upstream traverse of the entire Mississippi River, sub-zero temperatures, forest fires, countless portages, and plenty of unplanned support from people along the way, the team met salt water along the continent’s north shore on September 2. Altogether, they traveled 5,230 miles by human power. Check out the final video update above, which the crew sent in before heading home for some hard-earned down time. Stay tuned for a full recap of the trip in the next issue of Canoe & Kayak magazine and a documentary film that will be released in spring 2016.
