Vail Daily’s View: CMC aims higher at Edwards campus

If looking for a success story in these times, you could do a lot worse than Colorado Mountain College’s campus in Edwards.

Enrollment has increased by a quarter since the college built the campus there in time for classes in the 2004-05 school year.

Now the college plans to double the size of the building, without going into debt, which is impressive. Work should start in late July, early August and be ready for class for the 2011-12 school year.

The greater college — with campuses all over the central Rockies — should start offering four-year degrees by then, too.

Higher ed is taking a step forward, even through the great lingering recession, or maybe in some respects because of it. The college offers a good education at a good price, and conveniently. That’s certainly not the first choice of everyone, but it is a workable way to continue your schooling.

And, obviously, the growth of the enrollment and programs over this past handful of years offers pretty irrefutable proof of the model.

Build it and they will come. Worked in underrated novel and terrific movie, “Field of Dreams.”

For a growing number of Eagle County residents, this has become the College of Dreams.
