Not too early to plan for financing college

College Goal Sunday returns Feb. 8

If you are a college-bound student, it’s not too early to begin looking at the options available to you for paying for college next fall.

Mark your calendar for 1-3 p.m. on Feb. 8, when Colorado Mountain College hosts its second annual College Goal Sunday, a national event that sets aside a Sunday in February for any prospective college students and their parents to receive free professional help in applying for financial aid for college. This includes nontraditional and independent students as well.

Help isn’t just for those applying to Colorado Mountain College. College Goal Sunday is for all students intending to go to any college or university.

The college’s locations in Breckenridge, Edwards, Glenwood Springs, Leadville, Rifle and Steamboat Springs will participate in this year’s event, joining 14 other college campuses across the state. At each location, professionals will be on hand to guide attendees into alternatives for paying for college. Attendants are asked to bring W-2 forms, bank statements and identification. Spanish translators will be available.

Particular attention will be paid to filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid, which must be completed in order to apply for financial aid, work study, student loans and many scholarships.
