“Sweet, I Got an A” event celebrates student achievement
Last week, Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs celebrated students’ academic achievement by recognizing any student who has earned an A this year, whether it was on an academic transcript or on an assignment, and celebrating their success with prizes and ice cream.
The “Sweet, I Got an A” event was held on Thursday, Feb. 20 and was hosted by the TRiO Success Center and Student Activities professionals. Seventy five students participated. The event as created to encourage students to remember that overall academic success is built upon smaller building blocks.
“All the little A’s add up to the big A’s,” says Amy Phillips, Coordinator of the TRiO Success Center at CMC in Steamboat Springs. “Each A starts one quiz or paper at a time, and as these build you find yourself with an A in the course.”
The event was a great success. “We had many students thank us for doing the event, ” says Todd Schuster, Student Activities Coordinator at CMC in Steamboat Springs. “Many commented ‘Wow I need to get more A’s. Will you be doing this again?”
