Leadville student Becky Aurora shares her thoughts on finals – and things to do in Leadville and Summit County once they are over and winter break begins. This post was first published in Becky’s blog, Life at 10,200 feet.

Below are two pictures taken of Thursday evening’s snowmaking near the top of Dutch Henri Hill.  Snowmaking is done each year by students in the Ski Area Operation (SAO) program‘s Snowmaking Operations Lab.

Saturday morning it began snowing and it continued through the night, providing the resorts several inches of powder to complement the bluebird skies on Sunday.  It snowed again on Monday, providing us with more powder and bluebird days.

As far as the resorts go, my understanding is that Vail Resorts has stopped selling 2012/13 season passes.  Passes to Copper Mountain and A*Basin are still available though.  CMC does accept transfer students for Spring semesters, so if you are currently attending college elsewhere and want to move out to Colorado, the Copper College Pass is one option to consider looking into, as you do not need to buy it in person.  For more information about season passes for Colorado resorts, you can visit my Ski Passes 12/13 page.

As far as finals go…

  • My final Zumba class saw an attendance of 4 people and we got to go a little longer than normal.
  • Last Wednesday and again today we are presenting our final “product projects” in Global Business.  Products covered last week were: Gibson Guitars, laptop computers, Levi’s jeans, bottled water, Sunkist oranges, and Surfboards.  There are 10 presentations left to do tonight and while I don’t remember all the topics, I do remember that we are having another presentation on Levi’s jeans, one on tea, and another on fish.
  • My Essentials of Finance and Contemporary Marketing class gave us take home finals which I liked a lot better than sitting in class for 3 hours trying to remember everything we learned all semester.
  • This afternoon in my Accounting for Managers class we are presenting on our “Cookie Project”.
  • My final class of the semester is Management Systems, which was online.  I haven’t done the final yet since it isn’t due until Friday and I wanted to get the rest of my finals, which are due sooner, out of the way.

As far as what I plan to do over break… I’m not really sure.  My parents have been trying to talk me into coming home for part of break, but I have an interview tomorrow for a Race Crew position at one of the resorts, so we’ll see how that plays out.  Either way, hopefully I can read a book or two that isn’t required for class along with finally getting some snowboarding in (I have yet to get out this season), ideally after the rest of the state tracks out the powder for me since I’m one of the few people who don’t like powder.

If you are looking for something to do over break, there is still plenty going on:
