CMC board takes no formal action regarding compressor station

At a special meeting of Colorado Mountain College’s board of trustees today, no decision was made as to the outcome of a proposed natural gas compressor station at its Spring Valley campus, near Glenwood Springs. Trustees met in executive session to obtain legal advice on the transaction, but concluded the meeting without taking any action.

They released the following statement after coming into open session:
“This is a very complicated matter. As such, the Board of Trustees of Colorado Mountain College does not believe it has adequate time and information to make a decision at this time with regard to the proposed SourceGas compressor station at Spring Valley. The board took no formal action at today’s meeting. The college believes that further study, dialogue and deliberation is necessary to evaluate the appropriateness of the site and to further explore all possible options. Towards that end, the college is prepared to engage a neutral third party facilitator to assist in further discussions and negotiations with SourceGas. The board anticipates doing so promptly.”

SourceGas has been seeking to build a booster compressor station in Spring Valley, to increase pressure to meet customer demand between Rifle and Avon.

In response to feedback SourceGas received from the campus community and the neighbors this spring, they approached the county commissioners and withdrew their application for up to six months so that further discussion and information sharing could take place. SourceGas then considered another site, closer to the college’s water tower.
